2. What the app does
Serious Nutrition is a tool to log food, water and body weight and to compare them with targets you set. It is available as a web app and as an app for iOS and Android.
3. No medical advice
The app provides general nutrition tracking and calculations based on common formulas (for example Mifflin-St Jeor). It is not a medical device and does not provide medical, dietary or therapeutic advice. Suggested targets are estimates. Consult a physician or qualified nutrition professional before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant, under 18, have an eating disorder or any medical condition. Do not use the app as a substitute for professional care.
4. Product data
Product names and nutrition values retrieved via barcode or search come from Open Food Facts, a collaborative database maintained by volunteers, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). An extract of it (about 290,000 products) is included in the app; this extract is also made available under the ODbL, individual contents under the Database Contents License (DbCL). Basic foods come from the German Nutrient Database (Max Rubner-Institut, CC BY 4.0), the Swiss Food Composition Database (FSVO) and, in English, USDA FoodData Central (public domain). This data may be incomplete or wrong. Check values against the packaging; you can correct them in your own food database.
5. Your data and backups
All data is stored on your device. You are responsible for creating backups (More → Backup). We cannot restore data that was lost because a device was reset, the app was deleted or browser site data was cleared.
6. Purchases
Some features may be offered as a one-time purchase (“Pro”) through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google under their terms; refunds are handled by them. A purchase can be restored on other devices signed in with the same store account.
7. Licence
You receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive right to use the app. You may not copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer the app except where the law permits. The app’s source code is published under its own licence on GitHub; these terms govern use of the published app.
8. Availability and changes
We may change, extend or discontinue features at any time. The web version depends on third-party hosting and the Open Food Facts service; we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
9. Liability
The app is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damage, data loss or consequences of decisions taken on the basis of information shown in the app. Liability for intent and gross negligence remains unaffected. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Governing law
Swiss law applies, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Place of jurisdiction is Basel, Switzerland, subject to mandatory consumer protection provisions.
